Overview of Western Australia’s economy, presentation now available

A new PowerPoint presentation "Western Australia: A Statistical Overview", covering key economic indicators, can now be easily accessed via the Department of State Development website Invest in Western Australia page.
The presentation, which is available for use in written and spoken presentations, tracks the strong performance of the Western Australian economy during the 2007 – 2008 financial year, with most indicators well above the national average.
In this period Western Australia accounted for almost 40 per cent of Australia’s merchandise export earnings, and recorded real economic growth of 5.2 per cent, compared to 3.7 per cent nationally.
More recent data, covering employment and prices demonstrate the impact of the deteriorating global economic conditions.
Statistical information shown in the presentation is primarily sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and from the Western Australian Mineral and Petroleum Statistics Digest 2007-08 (Department of Mines and Petroleum).
The statistics presented in the slides have been compiled from a range of publications, some of which are updated monthly, quarterly or on an annual basis and are current as at April 2009.
The ABS website http://www.abs.gov.au/  provides statistical information as it becomes available. All statistics within the ABS website can be accessed free of charge.
