The Ord East Kimberley Expansion Project is a major joint State and Commonwealth initiative to double the Ord irrigation area into a world-class agricultural precinct by developing a further 14,000ha of land for irrigated agriculture and improving economic and social conditions in the East Kimberley region.
The Department of State Development is co-ordinating the Western Australian Government's participation in a proposed $4 billion development of a deep sea port, associated rail infrastructure and a purpose-built, world class industrial estate for major new resources processing and export industry development at Oakajee, 25km north of Geraldton in the State's Mid-West Region.
The State Government is developing a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) precinct in the Kimberley to enable processing of natural gas from the offshore Browse Basin.
The precinct would be capable of accommodating LNG processing and shipping facilities for multiple proponents currently exploring for and developing these resources.
This approach will minimise the environmental footprint of gas processing in the region while maximising opportunities for local people and businesses to participate in, and benefit from employment and business opportunities.
