Resources and Industry Development

To encourage and secure new investment and economic development in Western Australia, the Department of State Development assists proponents of significant resources, industrial and infrastructure projects, including expansion of existing projects.

The level and nature of support provided will vary with the project’s needs and its strategic significance to Western Australia, but could include:

Gorgon Project (Barrow Island)

The Department of State Development manages the Barrow Island Act 2003 and the Gorgon Gas Processing and Infrastructure Project Agreement (the Gorgon State Agreement) which outline the terms and conditions under which this massive project is proceeding.

State Agreements

State Agreements are essentially contracts between the Government of Western Australia and proponents of major resources projects. They package the rights and obligations of both parties and establish a framework between the State and project proponents.

The Pilbara Infrastructure (TPI) Port Access Regime

The Port Access Regime gives third parties a framework for commercial negotiations to gain access to Fortescue Metals Group's  port facilities at Port Hedland, on terms that are fair to FMG and to access seekers.
