Industrial Land

The Government of Western Australia has established Strategic Industrial Areas in key locations throughout the State to support the development of major heavy industry. Strategic Industrial Areas have been carefully selected to take advantage of each region's natural resources and competitive advantages, including availability of suitable land and access to population centres and physical and social infrastructure.

The Department of State development facilitates the development of Strategic Industrial Areas balancing the needs of the community and industry with other issues such as heritage and environmental concerns.

We regularly undertake assessments to determine land suitability, environmental and social factors associated with proposed industrial areas, and advise planning agencies whether proponents should access particular areas for development.

Two of the most notable Strategic Industrial Areas are at the Kwinana Industrial Area and the Burrup Industrial Area in the Pilbara, both of which play a major role in ensuring the economic prosperity of the State.
