China continues to be Western Australia’s top export market, accounting for almost 27 per cent of Western Australia’s goods exports in 2008 valued at A$22.5 billion.
Strengthening bilateral trade is reflected in a significant increase in goods exports over the past ten years, from A$1.6 billion in 1999 to A$22.5 billion in 2008.
There is a wealth of trade opportunities available in a number of sectors, including:
- building and construction
- education
- food and beverages
- environmental technology
- minerals and mining
- mining and energy services
- petroleum and gas
- tourism.
Western Australia’s relationship with China is strengthened through a Sister State Relationship with Zhejiang Province. Free Trade Agreement negotiations are also underway between Australia and China.
