Export volumes have trebled in the ten years to 2016. In 2006, Western Australia exported 250 million tonnes of iron ore. In 2016, Western Australia exported 763 million tonnes of iron ore.
Significant investment in the iron ore industry over the past fifteen years has stimulated the development of services industries that support projects and expansion of existing operations.
