The Western Australian Government remains committed to using the Oakajee site, located about 25 kilometres north of Geraldton, for a future port and industrial estate to support the continued development of the Mid West.
The Oakajee site consists of:
- 1000 hectare port site
- 1300 hectare industrial estate
- 4000 hectare industrial estate buffer
The land at Oakajee has been appropriately zoned in the local planning scheme and has an approved Structure Plan in place.
The site at Oakajee allows for a planned infrastructure corridor that will connect an existing industrial estate at Narngulu, 12 kilometres south-east of Geraldton, to the Oakajee site.
The Department of State Development together with the Department of Planning, is continuing to progress planning arrangements for the corridor. This will provide improved planning certainty for future industrial and port development at Oakajee.
The Department of State Development has substantially completed work on concept plans identifying options for the development of Oakajee on a scaled and staged approach over time. The work will inform development plans for Oakajee in the future.
